    Subscribe: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-CBR
Ever since the passing of Qui-Gon Jinn in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”, the fate of the galaxy was set in stone. With the Jedi Order blinded by their own dogmatic view of the force, Anakin Skywalker was destined to become Darth Vader and bring an end to the Jedi. However, with the birth of Luke Skywalker, a new hope came to the Galaxy. Trained by Ben Kenobi and Master Yoda, Luke became the Jedi Knight the galaxy needed and helped his father Anakin, return to the light, fulfill the prophecy of the chosen one and end Emperor Palpatine's reign of the galaxy. That’s until he decided to Essence Transfer himself into a clone of course.
Now what if Qui-Gon survived and defeated Darth Maul? Well that would change everything! It’s highly likely that if Qui-Gon did survive, he would become Anakin’s Master regardless of what the Jedi wanted. Qui-Gon followed the living force and only the living force. He nearly became a Gray Jedi. So, in this alternative timeline, how would this change of events change the fate of the Galaxy? If trained by Qui-Gon Jinn, would Anakin still become Darth Vader or would there be balance in the force? This question is what we are looking at in today's CBR What If video! What events in the prequel trilogy change? What, if anything would stay the same? What do you think would happen if Qui-Gon survived? Join us in a galaxy far far away as we dive into this Star Wars What if!

The only 2 issues I have with this is I feel Obiwan would have left the order with Jinn and Anakin. He was loyal to him as like Anakin Obiwan also saw Quigon as a Father. He would have also continued his training along side Anakin and probably have been an even better duelist. The other is I think Anakin still would have been reintroduced to Padame. Just their relationship wouldn't have been as secretive.

Obi,-Wan believed in the order. Look in TPM wh we're he tells Qui-Gon "if you would just follow the council ..." Qui-Gon's response is "I will do what I must." Also past Ep. 1 Obi-Wan never does anything to go against the council or even doubt anything they say. He is a true believer.

I have always said Palapatine's entire plan to make Anakin become his apprentice was to get rid of Qui-Gon Jinn. If you watch the choreography of the fight between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, you will see Darth Maul focuses on fighting Qui-Gon and all but ignores Obi-Wan. Mostly Maul just keeps knocking Obi-Wan out of the fight. Even once Maul kills Qui-Gon, he seems confused what to do next and is killed by Obi-Wan. That's because the mission he was given by Palpatine was completed.

@Alex Blend you are right man. When you watched the fight, after he killed Qui gon with his final blow he fluently steppes back and immediately faces obi wan. @kickballjedi I’m just specifically talking about the whole “maul is confused after killing quigon “ bit. The only time he has that confused look is when he sees that obiwan might be up to something (when obiwan notices his masters lightsaber) that maul is like “wait what he doesn’t think it’s over? Wtf is he up to?”

Hace un mes
kickballjedi +3

@Alex Blend It's after Maul pushes Obi-Wan into the pit. Even having the "high ground" he gets defeated rather foolishly IMO. That's was my interpretation of the fight. We also learn later Sidious' other apprentices were used as tools for his scheme (Dooku to push Anakin further to the Dark Side and Grievous to continue the Clone War), so I figure Maul was used to set up Obi- Wan training Anakin, or it could have been just to remove Qui-Gon from the equation...

In this timeline, I feel Anakin would still fall in love with Padme and their marriage would not be in secret, as I feel Qui Gon would give his blessing to Anakin and Padme. As well as Qui Gon would help Anakin with his visions of Padme dying and would figure out Palpatine was Manipulating Anakin with these visions. The prequels would’ve ended with Anakin still on the light side fulfilling his role as the chosen one, happily married to Padme, and fathering his two children. As well as the jedi admitting to their faults and completely reforming the Jedi order to follow the force instead of being tools for the republic. Oh and his mother/Lars family would be living on Naboo without ever need of working ever again.

Yeah, that’s one thing I feel this video overlooked. Qui-Gon would have 100% returned to Tatooine at some point to free Shmi, both so that Anakin could feel at peace (feeling fear over your mother who you had to leave behind in slavery is a VERY LEGITIMATE FEAR, idk why the council couldn’t understand that.) and also because Qui-Gon would have felt morally obliged to do it as a Jedi. So they take Shmi to Naboo to live happily with Padmé as something like a handmaid or groundskeeper perhaps, which Padmé would readily allow, and Anakin forms a long-standing friendship with Padmé until they are old enough for their age difference to not be weird anymore, at which point Anakin admits his feelings for her and they fall in love. Qui-Gon, realizing that love is in line with the Light Side, allows it, and they have a healthy relationship without Anakin being afraid to lose her or trying to possess her. With all that, there’s practically zero chance that Anakin turns to the Dark Side. I can still see him being interested in lightsaber combat and learning more about the Sith, and Qui-Gon, not being afraid, encourages this, and it helps Anakin find himself, and maybe even see things the Jedi can’t, with their fear of the Sith. Maybe Anakin eventually figured out who Palpatine is, they contact the Jedi Order in secret and start a resistance, and Palpatine’s plans are thwarted, with Sidious being defeated by Anakin himself sometime down the road after becoming incredibly powerful and skilled.

It's also a complete misunderstanding of Star Wars lore. The light side represents good and the dark side represents evil, and the light side IS the balanced Force. That's it. You don't embrace your evil half, that would be ridiculous. You overcome it. Also it makes no sense in this theory that Qui-Gon would teach Anakin the light and dark side, since Qui-Gon is completely dedicated to the light, or in other words, the will of the Force. Funniest part of this video is when it says Anakin using the light and dark (which isn't even possible) would make him more level-headed, lol. No, the dark side is why Anakin leveled Dooku's head in Revenge of the Sith. edit: Video also contradicts itself towards the end saying Anakin has return to the light side or something, so idk what they're even saying.

I can only find one serious issue, although it is admittedly fairly important: Qui-Gon was well-known for rediscovering the secret of becoming a force ghost, I have no doubt that he would communicate through the force to Anakin after his death, even if he wasn't able to do so in corporeal form.

Hace un año
Walker Sunrise Channel
Walker Sunrise Channel

I think this may have proven difficult as Qui-Gon did try to speak to Anakin after his death in Episode II, but Anakin believed he had simply imagined it. Of course, back when this video was made we didn't have the Obi-Wan miniseries, but in that we get the idea that Qui-Gon eventually learned to manifest a corporeal form as a Force ghost, however it may have taken him some time. If this was the case, it may have taken him some time to get through to Anakin, especially if the latter was letting guilt over the death cloud his mind. If, as in Episode II, any brief flashes of Qui-Gon's voice he may have heard were dismissed as imagination or even PTSD, it would be difficult for Qui-Gon to communicate with him until he was able to appear before Anakin as a corporeal ghost.

so do y’all realize Anakin technically fulfilled his prophecy. he was meant to bring balance to the force, correct but whenever he was a child the Jedi overpowered the sith by a mile and when anakin turned to the dark side he killed the majority of them and in the main trilogy we only knew of two jedi yoda and obi-wan as darth Vader, anakin killed obi-wan and made yoda the only one and then luke became a jedi. so what in summary anakin did exactly what was expected to become of him just not in the way the jedi thought.

*As an extra thought:* It seems as George Lucas himself originally envisioned it (and it's probably still viewed as such out-of-universe), the Force is _supposed to be_ a literal [Good versus Evil] divide. So my interpretation (with an obvious *_Legends_* bias) is the following: Any character's "alignment" within the Force, *including* those who aren't Force-sensitive [all life in the Star Wars galaxy are still affected by the Force in some way], is ultimately determined by a combination of Intentions, Actions, & Mental Fortitude (meaning their capacity to resist direct effects that any Force nexus can have on them). What we know of as the ["Light Side" of the Force] is the higher extreme end where *harmony* is most prominent. It is the side of good, life, peace, kindness, charity, defense, healing, & restraint. ^ It is erroneously believed by some to be the "weaker" side of the Force... but as long as *_life_* itself remains anywhere in the galaxy, the Light can _never_ be extinguished. What we know of as the ["Dark Side" of the Force] is the lower extreme end where *conflict* is most prominent. It is the side of evil, death, chaos, cruelty, hatred, violence, destruction, & impulse. ^ It is erroneously believed by some to be the side of the Force that "always destroys itself" in the end... but as long as things keep *_dying_* in the bleaker places of the galaxy, the Dark will _always_ return. That said, no-one who _uses_ powers from either extreme of the Force is "doomed" or "destined" to follow either path. It all ultimately depends on *_how_* these powers are used by each individual, and their motives. There is also the middle; the "Grey" side of the Force (not really a _side_ at all), where *control* is most prominent. It is *_not_* the side of true "balance", and it has a dangerous tendency of promoting apathy & inaction in the person striving to achieve this internal "balance". They become enigmas to everyone else around them.

Why are all the ideas on balance in this comment thread about how many biengs are alive? Balance because this light side user or this dark side user are both existing? I sincerely doubt that balance in the force means weighing lives on a dark-light scale. Also, Kylo's not Sith, Sith and Jedi are philosophical orders, that sometimes turn into political or religious ones, though the word Sith technically comes from a species that had tentacles on their faces. And Jedi came from the word Je'daii I think

The tell tale sign for me was when Dooku said to Obi Wan not join the dark side but rather to join him and how he wanted to destroy the sith. If he was a true sith lord, he would have told Obi Wan to join the dark side and help the sith conquer the republic. So that is why I feel Dooku was definitely still working for the republic even if he had to leave the jedi order to do so.

Honestly this follows a lot of what I had in mind for Qui-Gon training Anakin, especially with him leaving the Jedi Order to do so. Qui-Gon would mostly definitely renounce his standing with the Order if they refused Anakin again. Although, I'm of the belief that Dooku would also depart with Qui-Gon and have a hand in training Anakin, too. Remember that Qui-Gon's death was just the final nail in the coffin for him on turning to the Dark Side. The Jedi had failed Dooku already too many times. Upon hearing of Qui-Gon's departure, he would likely leave with Qui-Gon. Also, with Qui-Gon and Dooku's tutelage, Anakin would likely become all the more balanced in learning both the Light Side and Dark Side. He'd be a Yin-Yang Bomb.

One event would change the becoming of the chosen one, the fight between Qui-Gon and Maul. I think that Anakin would leave the order like Qui-Gonn did to continue his training with Qui-Gon, he would figure out how to communicate with Anakin as a ghost. A akin and his master would have went to another place in peace to train so Anakin wouldn’t have any communication with Padme, that would result in his fears not existing so he wouldn’t be tempted to join the dark side. After Qui-Gon’s death, Anakin would grow closer to Obi-Wan while their previous master found a way to become a ghost and interact with them. Because of Qui-Gon not dying though, Ahsoka wouldn’t become Anakin’s padowan and in the clone wars she would be paired up with someone else. In the movie of the Clone Wars, Anakin defends Ahsoka by agreeing with her plan against the clones and by telling her that he too was reckless so she might make it as his padowan, but she wouldn’t make it as Obi-Wan’s. Obi-Wan might or might not b paired up with a new padowan in this new timeline, as we saw in the clone wars, a padowan (Ahsoka) made the master (Anakin) more responsible and he didn’t risk his life as much; this might also have happened to Obi-Wan (making him more responsible) so without a reckless padowan, his life could b different too. Anakin and Padme wouldn’t meet again so Padme wouldn’t get pregnant and Luke and Leila wouldn’t be born, or they would but not as Anakin’s children. No Darth Vader so Palpatine would still be looking for another apprentice Sith lord.

That was pretty good. I like how it didn’t end up with Anakin still falling to the Dark Side and joining Palpatine, which would have been cliché. My one gripe is that I don’t think under Qui-Gon’s teachings, Anakin wouldn’t have started to give in to the Dark Side, even if Qui-Gon died. There would be inner turmoil, but I think Qui-Gon’s teachings would prevail and he’d work things out in himself. He’d still be the person that wants to do good at all costs, but without the recklessness, anger, and fear. Nonetheless, I do like the outcome of this what if, with Anakin going on a journey of self-discovery and finding himself and leading a resistance to finally defeat Sidious.

I do agree that having Qui-Gon as a father would have prevented Anakin from turning to the dark side because he would have been much more emotionally mature and balanced. There are some things I disagree with, however. Going with your theory that Qui-Gon dies at the end of Ep. 2, you just skipped over the Clone Wars into Ep. 3. I do agree that Anakin's relationship with Obi-Wan would be different, and their fighting styles wouldn't so be so closely matched, but it wouldn't be as different as you claim. They were both trained by Qui-Gon Jinn. And having lost Qui-Gon, they would bond over their shared grief as the Clone Wars progressed. They would have years of missions together. I think they would still develop a strong friendship, but it wouldn't be the one that we know. It would be more equal, honest, and open. Part of the dysfunction of the canon Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship was their blatant denial of certain things, like Anakin's relationship with Padme, or just denial of feelings in general. That leads me to my other issue with your theory. This theory runs with the false idea that Anakin turned to the Dark Side because of his love for Padme. WRONG! He turned to the Dark Side because of his FEAR of losing Padme. Fear and love are not the same thing. The Jedi Code forbidding attachments was one of the many things that was WRONG about the Jedi Order because it made the Jedi aloof and lacking compassion, which is what is supposed to be central in a Jedi's life. I think Anakin would meet Padme again in this "Qui-Gon lives" alternate timeline because I believe it was the Will of the Force that they met, which is exactly what Qui-Gon built his life around, and he would have raised Anakin to do the same. I think they would have a relationship, but since Anakin is not a Jedi, it wouldn't be a "secret." And I think that because of the emotional maturity he gained from being raised by Qui-Gon, his relationship with Padme would be much healthier and much stronger, and he wouldn't be driven by the fear of losing her. If, in this alternate timeline, he started having dreams of losing her, of course he would try to find a way to prevent it, but his emotional stability that he learned from Qui-Gon (and his mother, too, if she also lived) would have given him the strength to resist the Dark Side, even if it meant letting Padme go. We know from Revenge of the Sith that it was a self-fulfilled prophesy. Padme died because Anakin turned to the Dark Side to prevent her from dying. If he didn't turn to the Dark Side, then the prophesy simply wouldn't come true. And then they could have raised Luke and Leia together in a happy ending. What I think is really interesting to speculate on is how Qui-Gon's continued existence would affect Palpatine/Sidious' plan. As you said, the Jedi's vision of the Force was clouded where Qui-Gon's was not. Palpatine may have been a manipulative genius, but a lot of the reason he was so very successful was because the Jedi were so closed-minded and lost. He played on their weaknesses. If someone like Qui-Gon existed during his rise to power, I think it stands to reason that Palpatine would have been exposed much earlier, early enough that it would have prevented, if not the Clone Wars, then at least Order 66 and the Empire.

I enjoyed this but I don’t think Qui-Gon would lose to Dooku. But say he did. Qui-Gon rediscovered force ghosts and I believe he’d still be there for anakin like Obi Wan/Yoda and Luke and even Qui Gon and Obi Wan like you see at the end of Kenobi. But nonetheless I found it interesting to think about the possibilities

Thank you for this. A brilliant and heartfelt analysis and hypothesis. But, there is one thing you might have missed. To assume that Qui-gon is "old" whilst dismissing the fact that his former master is even older. Taking that scenario into mind introduces an alternative scenario to that confrontation, that could lead to his subduing his firmer master, further upsetting the proverbial Applecart. My intention is not to negate the thread of your line of thought, merely to follow it in its root system of implied possibilities. Thanks again for your efforts and hard work.❤️👍🏾

There is also the REASON that the clones were made was due to the fall of Sifo and Dooku. Dooku fell because Qui-gon died he blamed the Jedi for sending him on a suicide mission. That is when sideous started to pull his strings and the start of manipulation of the Seperatists forces. Why Dooku was the perfect choice for the reblion, He believed the Republic Corrupt. Sifo having sensed the Empire rising rushed to find a cloning facility but gets intercepted after initial contact and Dooku taking his place with Jango ready. Sideous giving the order of the chips unknown to Dooku for the Orders.... Really Dooku is a Key role in the timeline and Qui-gon dying is a domino setting it all in motion. No dead Qui-gon no Fallen Dooku. Sifo orders clones without Sideous intercepting no order 66 and the Rebuplic have their clones. A new plan he needs to make and the Jedi Fracturing is a key to his kingdom. A jedi Civil War would begin anew.

Qui-gon lived outside of the box. He saw the force as ot was. Neither dark or light as everyone else saw it. The Jedi became too proud thinking that there was nothing that would oppose them. Like Obiwan stated it was Qui-gon's beliefs that kept him being from being on the council. I believe that the whole Star Wars universe would have been different if he still lived. Perhaps through Sidious's influence, the whole Jedi order would have been ousted from there and made outlaws meaning they would be be open to anyone to attack them. Perhaps a big majority of the Jedi would eventually turn to the dark side through the aftermath thus increasing Lord Sidious's ranks. Just a theory

I quite enjoyed and would love to see more. However I believe that Count Dooku left the Jedi Order because he had become disillusioned with the Jedi and thought that they were too tied up in the Republic buerocrecy and didn't do enough to help the galaxy. Combined with the Battle of Galidraan, the loss of his apprentice Komari Vosa and the death of Qui-Gon was the final breaking point. He left the Order and later ran into Palpatine. At least that's how I've understood it.

This is an interesting “What if“. I also Wonder “What if” Qui-Gon had gotten A different Padawan instead of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe one that is more tougher and stronger and not as smart, or one that was very intellectual and not as strong but also distance from Anakin or a Padawan that was very spiritual like Qui-Gon and when Qui-Gon died and had his Padawan promise to train Anakin would his influence keep him from going to the Darkside ? Would it have stopped the fight on Musta far ? Would the Master teaching Anakin that replaced Obi-Wan have lost on Musta far ? I wonder what other peer Padawan were around Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon might have gotten and how much that Master to Anakin may have changed things. But I also believe may be Obi-Wan was to train and combat Anakin as he was the most balanced evenly at everything.

Bringing balance to the force was reducing the number of Jedi in the galaxy. As they greatly out numbered the Sith, master and apprentice. So Anakin was the chosen to bring this to fruition. I do wish Qui Gon wouldn’t have died. He was my favorite Jedi. I would also like to learn more of the Jedi that commissioned the creation of the clone army.

I agree with the general trajectory you shared until one point: what makes you think that Qui Gon would have lost to Count Dooku during the Clone Wars? QG lost to Darth Maul because DM was more agile, not because he was any less. But in a battle between QG and CD, QG would be the more agile one. Yes, in the films CD beat both Obi-Wan and Anakin, but they had no direct experience in CD's teachings. Having been trained by CD himself, a more agile QG would have known QG's weaknesses and been able to defeat him. QG himself would have realized himself that the Republic was now corrupt, notified the Jedi Council, and QG and Anakin both would have joined forces with the Jedi to stop Palpatine. Like before, Obi-Wan himself would have defeated General Grievous. And the Jedi would have sent Mace Windu and Qui Gon to confront the Emperor. Undiluted by the presence of a weak-willed/manipulated Anakin, emotional and confused, and without him on the scene, Mace and Qui Gon would have together been able to stop the Emperor. (That said, probably the Emperor would have targeted Anakin one way or another. The Sith, after all, are sneaky. Thus it is unclear which direction it would have actually gone in. Afterall, Anakin's future was always cloudy for a reason. Probably because his very birth was a product of the Sith's manipulation.) Then QG would have parted ways with Mace and refused to join the Jedi. And the Jedi would have been awakened by QG's 'gray Jedi' perspective, helping the council to see how they failed. Yoda would admit their weakness and steer the Jedi properly again. Qui-Gon would return to complete Anakin's training and the Dark side would have been discontinued. No more Emperor manipulating, no Darth Vader. With peace having been restored to the galaxy. Episode's 4, 5, & 6 would have never happened. QG not dying mean a Sith-infiltrated/led Empire would never have risen. Essentially Qui Gon dying one way or another is what would have led to the Empire.

I think the encounter with Count Dooku at the end of episode II would actually be Qui-Gon, Anakin, AND Kenobi vs. Count Dooku. There is no reason why Kenobi wouldn't tag along, and it would be a cool reunion throwback to episode I, but now with a more mature Kenobi, a fully grown Anakin, and an older and wiser Qui-Gon. No way Dooku survives that fight.

I think Qui-Gon would come to Anakin as a force ghost before Anakin meets with Palpatine and guide him to face his emotions. He would have him train on processing his emotions so they don't rule him, but could use them when appropriate. He would be level-headed enough to report back to the Jedi council that he had found the Sith they were looking for and allow Windu to deal with Palpatine without interference since Anakin did not need the Chancellor's help. Anakin would learn to be both wise and powerful, having the power to fight using the dark side, but also the wisdom to know when to apply it.

If anakin was more of a match for Dooku and Qui-Gon knowing Dooku’s fighting style more than anybody, wouldn’t the battle be longer, allowing for Yoda to appear before Qui-Gon and Dooku finish fighting or even before Anakin gets his arm taken off. Yoda would still appear, same as he did with the clone army, meaning that Qui-Gon would not die in episode 2.

He would put up a match like in Rots. In rots. Order 66 would never happen and all hope will be lost for the Dark side. Grievous will be killed and Dooku will rat out Darth sidious explaining he is the sith lord. Anakin would never love padme so when Mace windu dueled him. Anakin would help join the fight. Then they will disarm sidious and put him on trial. There he would explain everything and will then be executed.

I don't think Dooku would have killed Quigon, that seems just too out of character for him. He seems far more likely to join them, with their following of the Force, and their allowing of Attachments, which was what helped bring him over to the Darkside. I don't think he would spill his knowledge about Palpatine though, Probably still harboring a grudge against the Jedi.

@FruitSnackZ First off, its canon that Qui Gon had extensive lightsaber training, he was one of the best when he was younger. Secondly, he was trained by Dooku, and was a master duelist.

Hace un mes

Actually maul was a better duelist. Qui gon had a green lightsaber meaning he was more focused on mastering and connecting with the force. Obiwan and anakin had blue lightsabers meaning they focused more on mastering their abilities with a saber. And maul was obviously a great duelist because he mastered the hardest saber fighting form which is the double sided blade. Thats also y dooku would have also won against qui gon like he said in the video. Dooku was known as one of the best duelists in the galaxy at the time while qui gon was no where near the same skill level fighting wise.

I agree with most of this. Except episode 2 not meeting Padme. I feel like Padme would be sent to her home like before maybe by another Jedi or just private guards, Obiwan would then contacted Padme to relay the message, so she would of gone to save Obiwan still and got caught still. The main question would be if she had Jedi protection. I'd say no as it was palpatine who enforced it so he would of just said Obiwan and unless he had a Padawan it be just him. Although it be cool to see if Obiwan had a Padawan, who anakin got jealous of being close to Padme

Hace 2 meses
Desecrater17

I think something that everyone is overlooking is that if Qui-Gon left the Jedi order to train Anakin, Anakin would never have been as close to Palpatine. As for Padmé, Anakin would still love her, as stated in episode 2 that it had been over 10 years since he last saw her.

Hace 17 días
Christian Marshal +341

Obi-Wan wouldn’t fall out of the ship because unlike Padme... “He can see things before they happen. It’s a Jedi trait that’s why he appears to have such quick reflexes. Don’t don’t do that again!” Thank you Qui-Gon, so Obi-Wan would’ve deflected the blast, and Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Anakin would’ve all been facing off with Count Dooku, and since this time Anakin has learned to work with his emotions all these years instead of years of repression and since he saved his mother, he wasn’t raised among the other Jedi and Padme wasn’t there he hasn’t seen his mother die in his arms, several of his friends get blasted away and seen the woman he loves shot out of a ship all within the span of a couple days he wouldn’t be working through the same issues he was working through in the original timeline and wouldn’t have rushed in and been quickly knocked out. So instead of facing Obi-Wan and then Anakin separately he would be facing all three of them at once... he’d be screwed!
