Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve is an American national park that protects portions of the Brooks Range in northern Alaska. The park is the northernmost national park in the United States, situated entirely north of the Arctic Circle. The park is the second largest in the US, slightly larger in area than Belgium. Gates of the Arctic was initially designated as a national monument on December 1, 1978, before being redesignated as a national park and preserve upon passage of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980.
A large part of the park has additional protection as the Gates of the Arctic Wilderness that adjoins the Noatak Wilderness. They form the largest contiguous wilderness in the United States together.
Fauna include brown bears, black bears, muskoxen, moose, Dall sheep, timber wolves, wolverines, coyotes, lynxes, marmots, porcupines, river otters, red and Arctic fox species, beavers, snowshoe hares, muskrats, bald eagles, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, ospreys, great horned and northern hawk-owls. More than half a million caribou, including the Central Arctic, Western Arctic, Teshekpuk, and Porcupine herds, migrate through the central Brooks Range twice yearly, traveling north in summer, and south in winter. Caribou are important as a food source to native peoples. The park is the northernmost range limit for the Dall sheep. About 132 brown bears reside in the park and preserve, based on a density of about one bear per 100 square miles.

This was an absolutely breathtaking display of one of the last parts of truly natural beauty left on the earth and the beings that inhabit it. From start to finish I in awe of this documentary, excellent work!

Actually I saw a sundog that looked like a miniature sun. It was half the size. I also saw 2 sunsets in opposing directions. It was 2, maybe 3 yrs b4 covid in Beaumont, Texas. I've also seen a star. It traveled at the speed of light. It was in another galaxy. It traveled between stars in almost an instant. It was at Lake Colman, Colman, Texas. Summer of 87? 88? Anyway, I could also see the Milkyway and it went zigzag from one to the next to the next in 1.5 seconds. Explain That!

EXCELLENT video!! I lived 4 years in Alaska. Was a gold planner, so rv lived all over the state. One of my funniest experiences was applying for a fishing licenses. It stated that you must agree to letting a bear HAVE any fish on your line, if he wants it. Welll, he can HAVE the fish, my line, my pole, and I'd even BAIT the hook for him!

@𝘼𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧 -Gold? If so, I averaged enough to live on for about 4-6 months a year. Panning season is only 3 to 3 1/2 months long-due to weather. I worked temp or seasonal jobs the rest of the time. Panning is a LOT of hard work, and dangerous because of bears, moose, and claim jumpers. I belonged to the Anchorage GPAA, and we'd weigh our amounts-separating in to flour, placer, and nugget sizes. They'd sell all of our collected gold to get the best price, instead of less for smaller amounts. Plus, all mines and land with streams are privately owned, so GPAA members got to pan - with owners permission.

Yeah thank National Geographic... they are the ones who made this dang video and all the rest in the series in 2015, entitled America’s national parks .... this YouTube “ channel “ only profit off plastering ads during other people’s videos. They don’t make any of these .... but yeah, of course it’s well done ... National Geographic did a great job on this series .... too bad dude with this YouTube channel just uses other folks work as a means to selfishly profit ... wouldn’t mind if they gave credit where due and didn’t plaster ads all through every video they take from other actual folks that actually work on and produce these lovely videos and profit as if they’re belonging to them somehow... they don’t even mind having some folks think they’re their videos , the way they change the titles and plaster descriptions that try and deceptively get away with violating copyright regulations ... I’ve never Bn the type to give a damn about that or worry with being petty and reporting folks over that stuff , so not like the dude stealing these vids has to worry bout that but it’s still irritating as crap .. these happen to be among my absolute favorites of all documentaries and i just don’t appreciate these random peoooe on YouTube that get to exploit other folks content just so they can benefit for themselves off it , while subjecting viewers to a plethora of annoying ads. Sick of this channel and their stupid bs. The least they could do is be remotely honest and decent ..

Why ? Bc they plaster National Geographic’s documentaries all over their stupid channel along with all kinds of other networks videos that this channel had nothing to do with , just so they can selfishly profit off exploiting the work of other people for their own benefit , while deceptively changing the titles and descriptions just enough to get away with copyright infringement ? Yeah, what a worthy thing to be so happy about... this dude plasters a plethora of ads during content that doesn’t remotely belong to or have anything to do with him & makes money off these stupid ads ... but let’s all inflate the ego of someone already annoyingly stealing content from other folks just to selfishly exploit it for profit .. or did u actually think they made these vids ? Uhhh so annoying.
