In this video I'll show you how I restored my wife's grandfather's old axe. It was his favorite ax . I will also show you how to make an ax handle. I'll make the handle out of ash. Pleasant viewing.
Stunning, Having the wedge in the back like that is awesome. I would really love to have that on my side as a little wedge banger because it deserves to be used. Outstanding job.

Wow - you used several techniques that I have never seen before anywhere else (combo wood/metal handle - partial depth inlays, and a very ingenious way to keep the ax head on). Beautiful results on the ax head and the handle. Thank you for making that video.

Breathing new life into something that it’s original creator, long passed away, would be proud of. I have a deep reverence for the craftsman who created tools and the tools themselves, that have lasted beyond a lifetime. There’s something special about holding something that’s survived not only time but the abuse that it’s taken during it’s lifetime. I think about who may have used the tool and for what purpose. Thanks for giving this tool time for the next generation to hopefully use and appreciate.🙏👍🇺🇸 Your skills are off the chart BTW.

Very nice workmanship and a credit to your grandfather. The only thing I would change as was taught by my father when using a slot head screw and now with Pozi/ Philips head screws to ensure the slot of the screw travels the length of the item as it will look better if you do than across as it is now but of cause that is for you to decide, just a thought from my late father from me to you.

Really nice work. I would have loved to see the finishing process in detail (even if it means a longer video); it's the best part of it IMO! All of it, polishing of the head, sanding of handle, etc. I also assume you did some coating or even tempering of the iron head since it's not rusty, that would have been cool to see too :)

I felt the same. A lot of the "rough" work was shown, and then it suddenly jumped to a much more fine finish. I imagine a metal inlay is mainly for looks? I'm guessing it'll not handle as well as a wood handle (stiffer, less damping) and over time the join will separate. Looks cool when new though...
