@Bill Price If you study Adam Smith; the economist, he has a corollary to the famous Pin Factory manufacturing efficiency model. It says that repetitive jobs make people stupid. Nobody ever quotes that. Yet; I bet, it's better to be stupid than dead from starvation!

Every innovation costs jobs, so maybe those children can appreciate it when they are standing in the bread line.

5:20 Imagine if Marvin Heemeyer had bought one of those Cats for his "killdozer" creation. lol The Jaws of Life that I saw in person weren't powered by whatever he keeps changing out (are those charged cartridges with CO2 or something?). Instead, it was quite smooth and powered by compressed air. I remember them operating smoothly. Is there more than one type? My uncle was a firefighter at the time and we got to play with all of the stuff on the trucks, equipment, etc. Even took the OshKosh out onto the airport field grass and sprayed some water from the main cannon (foam was too expensive).

Jaws of life are hydraulically operated. The equipment you showed was activated by an explosive charge such as a shotgun shell. I doubt that piece of equipment would ever be used to extricate someone from a car wreck. You wouldn't want to use it 2 inches away from somebody's face.

@Joe Mag Yeah. My brother works construction and I've seen him drive nails through footings into concrete with those blanks.

@Lifted_Above , you might be correct about the CO2 cartridges. Using the entire contents of the cartridge at once would provide quite a bit of power. I do know that some nail guns use small caliber gunpowder blanks.

Amazing how so many people online care about the physical safety and well being of people in videos, like they are some kind of OSHA police. Dude, he could blow out someone's hearing, whack a finger off, skin a knee, break a tooth, you know........hurt sumpin. Wouldn't want that to happen.
