If an outfielder losing the ball in the sun is a 1 in a trillion moment, then I've watched about 80 trillion MLB games.

@Seth Tate Don鈥檛 say 鈥渨ill never happen again鈥 It very easily could, someday, with some players that nobody has even heard of yet It MIGHT never happen again, that鈥檚 true, but to say that something is one in a trillion/never going to happen again, is just stupid, particularly if it鈥檚 already happened once, the odds are MUCH MUCH higher than one in a trillion

Fun Fact: Griffet Sr has 2 sons that both played in the MLB. Imagine if the 3rd Griffey was on the Mariners at that time. Sadly Griffey's brother struggled with depression from being in his brothers very large shadow and was only in the MLB for a short time. But thinking about back to back to back homeruns would be mythical status

I was there at the Angels vs Mariners game in September 1990 when Ken Griffey Jr & Sr hit the back to back homeruns in the first inning. I was 13. Our repeated free season tickets had our seats near 3rd base just above the Angels dugout, 6 rows up from the field, since my dad's cousin Dick Williams was manager of the Angels (74-76). He also managed the Mariners (86-88) and a few other teams. Because of this family connection, I knew all the Angels players (80s & 90s) and owner Gene Autry personally.

I鈥檒l never forget at a little league game last year a foul ball popped into the other diamond. And as the batter at home took a swing at his real pitch, he hit that ball and the foul pop up from one diamond over. IN THE SAME SWING! Small things like that make sports amazing.

Mike Schmidt hit a ball off of Claude Osteen at the old Astrodome that was hit so high and hard that it literally looked like it was going to hit the back of the dome when it hit a speaker and fell straight down to the field. Osteen tells the story that he jumped all over Cesar Ceneno for not catching it. Schmidt ended up with a single.

*The bounced pitch that Vladimir Guerrero hit against the Orioles in Baltimore isn't even the craziest hit he had in his career. Guerrero once hit an 0-2 pitch that bounced before the plate for a single to break up a perfect game with 2 outs in the 7th inning. Unfortunately I don't recall the pitcher or opponent. I'm surprised that hit wasn't in this compilation.*

@Sandal_Thong So you think the odds of a 1 in a million thing happening 2x to the same person is 2 in a million. I did read the incredibly clueless thing you said, I just chose not to specifically call you out. I was hoping you knew enough about the subject to realize your error from what I said. But you didn't. Okay I'll be more clear. You're saying it's far more likely for something rare to happen to the same person twice than once. It isn't. You just don't have any grasp of how odds work.

If there were 1 trillion moments in baseball, then these moments would be the only time they happened in the history of the MLB. So let鈥檚 find out if that鈥檚 possible. Let鈥檚 start by setting an upper limit of the possible amount of games played. If MLB consistently had 30 teams playing a 162 game schedule since the first professional team in 1869, there would be 371,790 regular season games, and if the postseason had the current maximum number of games (43) consistently since 1869, there would be another 6,579 postseason games. That makes a maximum of 378,369 games possible. So now let鈥檚 make some assumptions about the number of 鈥渕oments鈥 in a game. Once again, we will try to get a maximum number here. Let鈥檚 start with an average of 10 innings a game, so we take extra innings into account. 3 outs per team per inning gives us 60 outs in a game. Assume 10 pitches per out, giving us 600 pitches a game. How many moments a pitch? There鈥檚 the pitch, the swing, the catcher receiving the ball, the play in the field, and the play at 4 bases. 8 moments per pitch. Obviously, we are estimating high, because there are often 2-3 moments per pitch, and rarely any more than 8. 600 pitches times 8 moments a pitch give us 4800 moments a game. So if we take 378,369 games and multiply that by 4800 moments per game, we get an upper bound of 1,816,171,200 moments in MLB history. So we can round up to 2 billion moments. So the premise of this video is off by orders of magnitude. If it were titled 1 in a billion moments, then we could hope that those moments happened twice throughout MLB history, max. If we were to expect to see a 1 in a trillion moment, we鈥檇 have to see (on average) MLB play as many games as they have already played 499 more times. TL;DR - it鈥檚 irresponsible to say these are 1 in a trillion moments. It鈥檚 a better idea to wait until the year 78369. That鈥檚 when we鈥檇 expect we鈥檝e seen a few 1 in a trillion moments occur in MLB.
